On June 16th Pisa celebrates San Ranieri, its patron saint, lighting thousands of candles on the facades of the buildings along the River Arno. Something like our night procession on September 13th when Lucca celebrates its Holy Cross.
From 6pm onwards, candles are put into glasses and then hung to the facades by a lot of young people and as the sunlight fades, the feast begins. Also the leaning Tower in Piazza dei Miracoli was enlightened.
We were in Pisa and I took some pictures but pictures can hardly describe the feast: Pisa was crowded with people of any age and origin, there were banquets, music, people singing and eating and drinking!
I didn’t use a tripod for my camera, so I tried to create special effects with the lights. 🙂
